While it might not be the top priority for all crossover SUV shoppers, we have found quite a few of our Albany drivers to be disappointed in the 2016 Ford Escape horsepower ratings. Even if you’re just using a midsize crossover for your family car, it’s important to have an engine that can kick out the horses when you’re running behind in the morning or need to merge onto the highway on a family trip.
We compared the Escape to the 2016 Honda CR-V to give drivers an idea of how the power of these two vehicles compare.
Honda Delivers on Power and Efficiency
Did you know that it’s possible for a vehicle to have an engine that is both more powerful and more fuel efficient than its competition? Most drivers think you have to choose, and while that might be the case when it comes to choosing the high-powered muscle car versus the practical compact sedan, when shopping in one class, some engines are simply better.
- The 2016 Ford Escape horsepower maxes out at 168 hp, earning up to 170 lb-ft of torque, and FWD models are rated at 31 highway and 22 city mpg.
- The 2016 Honda CR-V 2WD LX has 185 hp and 181 lb-ft of torque, earning an EPA-estimated 33 highway and 26 city mpg.*
While the Escape’s weaker engine manages to tow as much as the CR-V can (1,500 pounds), if you’re wanting to store cargo inside the vehicle, Honda gives you more space. The standard cargo space of the CR-V LX is 37.2 cubic feet, expandable to 70.9 cubic feet, but the Escape only manages 34.3 standard cubic feet (expanding to 67.8). That’s enough room to not have to worry about that extra bag of groceries or the kids’ backpacks.
Feel the Power of the CR-V
It’s necessary to put the engine specs next to each other to give drivers a clear way to identify just how much more powerful or more efficient an engine is. But at the end of the day, you really need to feel the power firsthand. Let us show you how much more comfortable and spacious a CR-V is in addition to besting the 2016 Ford Escape horsepower ratings.
