Albany drivers looking for an advanced new crossover, we want to make sure you know you don’t have to settle for the 2016 Kia Sorento standard features; some modern crossovers give drivers connectivity and safety features without requiring upgrades. To give you an idea of what a competitive 2016 crossover looks like, we put the Sorento up against our 2016 Honda Pilot. The Pilot has five trim levels, but even the basic LX trim outdoes the standard Sorento when it comes to features. Let’s take a look.
The Pilot or the Sorento
It’s tough to know what every driver will want in a new crossover, and there are two different routes that automakers go. Brands like Honda give drivers a wide range of amenities on the basic trim level so that drivers can get the features they want without needing to upgrade. Other brands offer a basic model while “letting” drivers upgrade for the features they want.
While Kia does better than some automakers on standard features, they still fall into the trap of requiring upgrades for essential features like these, which come standard on the Pilot:
- Rearview camera system
- Active head restraints
- Third-row split-folding bench seat
- Floor mats
You read that right, the 2016 Kia Sorento standard features don’t even include floor mats, one of many upgrades that bump the crossover’s price even higher.
Another big difference between these two crossovers is what’s under the hood. While the Sorento would like to compete, it requires upgrades to have a V6 engine with anywhere near the power of the Pilot. Here’s how their standard engines compare:
- The 2016 Honda Pilot has a 3.5L V6 engine with 280 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque, able to tow up to 5,000 pounds (3,500 pounds on front-wheel drive models)
- 2016 Kia Sorento models have a 2.4L 4-cylinder with 185 hp and 178 lb-ft of torque, towing only 2,000 pounds.
If you want a powerful and well-equipped crossover, we think it’s a clear choice.
