2018 Honda Ridgeline Performance Surges Past Competition

  • 2018 Honda Ridgeline

The 2017 Honda Ridgeline Baja Race Truck made its debut on the track with a strong finish at the Parker 425. While the Baja racer isn’t available for purchase, it does share parts with the 2018 Honda Ridgeline that can be found on the lots of Capital Region Honda Dealers. You can take the chassis that inspired that racing performance, power, and handling, and unleash it on the streets of New York.

Engine and Power

While the Ridgeline Baja Race Truck is equipped with a certainly not street-legal 550 hp, 3.5L twin-turbocharged V6 engine produced by Honda Performance Development, it actually uses the same aluminum-alloy block, cylinder heads, and crankshaft as the production 24-valve SOHC i-VTEC V6 that you’ll get with your Ridgeline, from the RT trim all the way up to the Black Edition. With 280 hp, 262 lb-ft of torque, and a redline at 6,800 rpm, the Ridgeline is unstoppable. Honda engineers worked tirelessly to ensure the Ridgeline engine is at peak performance. With direct fuel injection, a drive-by-wire throttle system, Eco Assist system, variable cylinder management, an active control engine mount system, and a direct ignition system with immobilizer, your Ridgeline will keep running smoothly and is guaranteed for 100 thousand miles with no scheduled tune-ups, only fluid changes.

Transmissions

You can harness all the power of the Ridgeline with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Available on the Sport, RTL, RTL-T, and standard on the RTL-E and Black Editions, a heavy-duty transmission cooler keeps your engine moving when you need it most. You can even choose how you ride, with AWD standard on the RTL-E and Black Editions and available on the Sport, RTL, and RTL-T models. Take advantage of standard front-wheel drive in the RT, Sport, RTL, and RTL-T trims for a more efficient package with more interior and cargo space.

Fuel Efficiency

Honda’s expanding line of AWD vehicles continues to become more efficient as Honda engineers devise new ways to keep their vehicles as environmentally friendly as possible without sacrificing performance. The 2018 Ridgeline’s fuel economy will vary slightly depending on the driving configuration chosen. The AWD versions will top out at an EPA-estimated 18 city/25 highway/21 combined mpg,* while the slightly less demanding 2WD models will run around an EPA-estimated 19 city/26 highway/22 combined mpg,* and with a 19.5-gallon tank, your Ridgeline won’t be guzzling gas at the pump.

Hauling

It’s not a truck if you can’t tow anything with it. The 2018 Ridgeline AWD models can haul up to 5,000 pounds or 3,500 pounds on the 2WD versions. You can take advantage of the integrated Class III trailer hitch, which includes the seven-pin connector on AWD models. Total payload capacity for the truck itself is 1,465 pounds. You can store things in the 7.2 cubic foot in-bed trunk, standard on all Ridgeline models, or use it as an 82-quart ice chest. The dual-action tailgate swings out for easy loading and unloading, or just sitting back in the bed and enjoying the outdoors. Car and Driver noted that the Ridgeline’s towing capability and in-bed trunk “enhance truck tradition.”

Active Safety

The Honda Ridgeline technology features include a number of active safety systems that actually help improve performance while keeping you safe. The vehicle stability assist system with traction control gives you better handling while accelerating on loose or slippery road surfaces by regulating the engine’s output and selectively braking during cornering when under- or oversteering is detected. The electronic brakeforce distribution system will vary the amount of force applied to each wheel based on road conditions, speed, loading, and a number of other factors to ensure you always maintain traction and control. Brake assist will detect emergency braking and will apply additional pressure to the brake to avoid a collision with other vehicles or a sudden passing animal.
