The 2019 Honda HR-V Safety

The 2019 Honda HR-V is a subcompact crossover SUV that is as versatile as it is dynamic on the road. A flexible interior can accommodate both passengers and cargo while its sharp handling and available AWD make it a great option for all-season driving. U.S. News and World Report says it’s “one of the best choices in the subcompact SUV class,” offering “the best combination of quality and value.” But it’s the HR-V’s safety features and technology that also makes it one of the safest crossover options on the road.

  • Active and passive safety features ensure the HR-V is performing at its best and keeping everyone inside safe.
  • Multi-angle rearview camera is standard on every model.
  • Honda Sensing suite of driver-assistive technology includes warning and prevention systems.

Advanced Compatibility Engineering Structure

The Honda HR-V features an innovative Advanced Compatibility Engineering Structure, which is a complex network of frame structures that absorbs crash energy and distributes it away from the occupants sitting inside the cabin. It also minimizes the amount of force transferred to the other vehicle involved, keeping everyone on the road safer.

Passive Safety

The HR-V’s list of passive safety features includes airbags, seatbelts, locks, and more. These vital features may go on unnoticed at first glance, but are there for you when you need them most.

  • Advanced Front Airbags
  • SmartVent Front Side Airbags
  • Side Curtain Airbags with Rollover Sensor
  • 3-Point Seat Belts at all Seating Positions
  • Front 3-Point Seat Belts with Automatic Tensioning System
  • Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH)
  • Driver’s and Front Passenger’s Seatbelt Reminder
  • Child-Proof Rear Door Locks

Active Safety Enhances Performance

A list of active safety features ensures the HR-V is performing at its best, even amid inclement weather or less than ideal road conditions. These features help the HR-V maintain good tractive control with the road, come to a complete stop more quickly in an emergency braking situation, and ensures the HR-V is clearly visible to other drivers on the road.

  • Vehicle Stability Assist with Traction Control
  • Anti-Lock Braking System
  • Electronic Brake Distribution
  • Brake Assist
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System
  • LED Daytime Running Lights

Multi-Angle Rearview Camera

Every model of the HR-V comes equipped with a multi-angle rearview camera that allows drivers to check their surroundings before reversing. And with guidelines as a standard feature, and dynamic guidelines as an upgrade on the upper trim levels, drivers can maneuver in and out of tight spaces with ease. The camera includes three different views, each offering an ideal angle for different driving situations.

  • Normal – Check for a clear path behind the HR-V before backing out.
  • Wide – A wider angle allows drivers to see cars, pedestrians, or cyclists who may be approaching the rear.
  • Top-Down – A top-down angle is especially helpful when parallel parking.

Honda Sensing

Starting with the EX model, the HR-V comes equipped with the Honda Sensing suite of driver-assistive technology. The package includes systems that warn, prevent, and mitigate incidents on the road and helps drivers drive more safely.

  • Forward Collision Warning – This system issues a warning to the driver to take swift action when a potential forward collision is detected.
  • Lane Departure Warning – If the HR-V sways out of its lane on the highway, this system warns the driver to correct the steering.
  • Collision Mitigation Braking System – Front sensors detect collisions before they happen and can automatically engage the brakes in order to mitigate any impact.
  • Road Departure Mitigation System – If the HR-V rolls over lane lines or road markings, this system automatically engages the brakes to prevent it from going off the road.
  • Lane Keeping Assist System – If the lane Departure Warning goes on unheeded, this system nudges the steering to bring the HR-V back into the center of the lane.
  • Adaptive Cruise Control – Drivers select their desired speed and distance interval with the vehicle ahead on the road, and this system keeps the HR-V cruising while naturally adapting to changes in the flow of traffic.

Honda LaneWatch

The EX model also includes Honda LaneWatch. A small camera is mounted onto the passenger’s side mirror and displays a live video feed of activity going on in the driver’s blind spot. The video is displayed on the 7-inch touchscreen inside the cabin when a right lane change is signaled and allows drivers to see up to four times more than using the mirrors alone.
