Get Connected, Protected with State-of-the-Art Honda Civic Technology Features

  • 2016 Honda Civic

Consumers will find a host of state-of-the-art amenities among the Honda Civic technology features to make the driving experience safer, more connected, and more convenient.

The award-winning Civic is well known for its quality and reliability. Are you ready to explore its cutting-edge technology?

Facing Down the Competition

When it comes to tech amenities, the Civic has the competition licked, including top rivals like the 2016 Toyota Corolla, the 2016 Kia Forte, and the 2017 Hyundai Elantra.

Among amenities the Civic offers that these competitors do not, the Civic features standard SmartVent front side airbags, which use speed and seat sensors to detect the size of the front passenger and deploy accordingly with varying degrees of force—or not at all. If a small child is detected, for instance, the front airbags on that side of the car will shut off altogether.

None of these competitors—the Corolla, Forte, and Elantra—offer SmartVent front side airbags.

The Civic additionally offers an available collision mitigation braking system, which alerts the driver to a potential collision ahead and, if the driver doesn’t respond in time, automatically applies the brakes at full force.

Neither the Corolla nor the Forte offers a collision mitigation braking system.

The Civic further features an available lane departure warning system, which is not available in the Corolla or the Forte.

HondaLink Assist comes standard in all but the Civic base model, using GPS and a cellular system to alert emergency responders when airbags deploy in the vehicle. This is a potentially lifesaving service not found in the Corolla.

The Civic further offers a host of other features not found onboard these rival vehicles, including:

  • Available rain-sensing variable intermittent windshield wipers (not offered in the Corolla, the Elantra, or the Forte)
  • One-touch power windows for the front passenger (not offered in the Corolla, the Elantra, or the Forte)
  • Remote vehicle starting system (not offered in the Corolla or the Elantra)
  • Standard automatic headlights that turn on at dusk and off at dawn when the car is in use (not offered in the Corolla and only offered as an extra-cost upgrade in the Elantra and the Forte)
  • Available adaptive cruise control (not offered in the Corolla or the Forte)
  • Available auto-dimming rearview mirror (not offered in the Corolla)
  • Standard Bluetooth wireless connectivity (only available as an extra-cost upgrade in the Elantra)

Convenience Boosters

Other features found in the Civic have been tailored to make the driving experience much easier and more convenient.

One of these amenities is Smart Entry, which comes standard in all but the base Civic trim. When the Smart Entry remote is somewhere on your person, such as in your purse or pocket, the Civic’s doors unlock automatically as you approach the car; you can start the Civic, drive it, and turn it off, and the doors will automatically lock as you walk away from the car—all without ever having to pull out the key.

The aforementioned HondaLink further allows drivers to schedule needed vehicle services and repairs and access on-demand radio with the included built-in Aha app.

The Civic’s one-touch power moonroof with tilt feature—a standard offering on all but the base model—additionally provides convenient access to fresh air and sunlight or moonlight whenever they are wanted. Drivers no longer have to wrestle with a manually opening moonroof while driving; just push a button and the moonroof easily slides open.

Fun for the Road

Other tech amenities offered in the Honda Civic are designed to boost the enjoyment factor out on the road, such as the Civic’s standard Bluetooth Streaming Audio, MP3 and Windows Media Audio playback capability, radio data system, USB audio interface with charging ports, and speed-sensitive volume control.

Pandora compatibility additionally comes standard in all but the base model, as does Google Android Auto and the incredibly easy-to-install Apple CarPlay (see our video for a handy tutorial). The Civic EX-T, EX-L, and Touring models further offer standard SiriusXM and HD radio.

Weary travelers can also find food, notable sites, and other locations with the Honda satellite-linked navigation system, which comes standard in the Civic Touring trim and is available in the EX-L trim. This system includes features like voice recognition, Honda HD Digital Traffic, and Song By Voice.

In addition to its previously mentioned safety offerings, the Civic further features a lane keeping assist system, which comes standard in the Touring model and is offered as an available feature in the other Civic trims. It also offers available forward collision warning, an available road departure mitigation system, Honda LaneWatch (standard in all but the base model), a multi-angle rearview camera, vehicle stability assist with traction control, brake assist, and a tire pressure monitoring system.
