The refreshed 2020 Honda CR-V and upcoming all-new Honda CR-V Hybrid have been awarded 2020 Green SUV of the Year by Green Car Journal. It’s Honda’s second Green SUV of the Year award and their sixth win from Green Car Journal overall. To find out what makes the Honda CR-V and new Honda hybrid SUV frontrunners when it comes to green driving, read on to explore:

2020 Honda CR-V Efficiency
All 2020 Honda CR-V models will be fitted with the sophisticated 1.5L turbocharged engine previously only available with higher trims. That means you’ll have up to 190 hp and 179 lb-ft of torque at your command for athletic performance wherever you drive.
The Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) will make up to:
- An EPA-estimated 28 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway with FWD models*
- An EPA-estimated 27 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway with AWD models*
As written by Car and Driver: “Good to look at, good to drive, and good on gas: the CR-V is among the most fuel-efficient compact crossovers we’ve tested.”
2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid Efficiency
The Honda CR-V Hybrid has not yet released its MPG ratings, but the combination of 2.0L 16-Valve DOHC Atkinson Cycle engine, electric motors, and hybrid battery pack is extremely promising. It should deliver:
- Up to 212 hp combined
- A 50% increase in EPA city fuel economy ratings from the standard Honda CR-V.
Honda was recently recognized by the E.P.A for offering the highest fleet-average fuel economy of any automaker, and they’re aiming to halve global CO2 emissions by 2050 by electrifying two-thirds of global automobile sales by 2030.
With that kind of eco-conscious thinking, it’s easy to see why this is the sixth time Honda has been awarded by Green Car Journal. Previous winners include:
- Honda Insight
- Honda Civic Natural Gas
- Honda Accord
- Honda Clarity
- Honda HR-V
