Honda Sensing Puts You in Control!

Before you make a final decision on your next new car, make sure that your favorite option has what it takes to keep you and your passengers safe day in and day out! Most Capital Region drivers already know that Honda’s vehicles offer superior safety relative to their competitors, and that families have been placing their trust in this manufacturer for generations. Still, safety technologies are always changing and evolving, and past performance is no guarantee of future success. As Honda continues to roll out more and more vehicles equipped with Honda Sensing, many drivers are no doubt wondering: What is Honda Sensing, and how will it make me safer? Potential buyers can rest assured, the Honda Sensing safety package is loaded with desirable safety and driver-assist features. Read on to get an idea of what each of the Honda Sensing technologies can do.

Honda Sensing Technologies

Honda Sensing is composed of a number of different warnings and protective technologies that work automatically to keep you safe on the road. Here, we’ve outlined each in turn.

Lane Departure Warning (LDW): The Lane Departure Warning is a driver’s first line of defense against undesirable drift. If it detects a lane change with no turn signal being activated, it sends out a warning to let you know it’s time to correct your path.

Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS): LKAS functions similarly to the Lane Departure Warning, except that it can begin to correct your path automatically if it senses that you’re moving over the center line.

Road Departure Mitigation System (RDMS): As with the LDM and LKAS, the RDMS uses a series of cameras in order to make sure you’re on the right path! This system keeps an eye on the road shoulder and directs you back toward the centerline if it senses that you’re nearing the edge of your lane.

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC): Set your preferred speed and following distance with Adaptive Cruise Control! When active, this system adjusts your cruise control speed in relation to the flow of traffic, taking all the stress out of your daily commute.

Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS): There’s no substitute for paying attention to the road, but Honda Sensing’s Collision Mitigation Braking System can certainly make that easier. This system can slow or stop your vehicle automatically when it senses that you’re rapidly approaching an obstacle.

Forward Collision Warning (FCW): Before the CMBS springs into action, Honda Sensing’s Forward Collision Warning sends out a variety of signals to let you know that there’s danger up ahead.

Additional Honda Sensing Features

Although the elements we’ve listed above are the most well-known Honda Sensing features, there are several others that bear mentioning. These visibility-enhancing technologies can give the driver more time to respond to surprises on the road.

Honda Lanewatch

Honda LaneWatch: Honda LaneWatch springs into action whenever you activate your turn signal. When you’re changing lanes, a live feed of your blind spot will appear on your vehicle’s central console screen.

Blind Spot Information System

Blind Spot Information System (BSIS): With the BSIS equipped, a light-up indicator on your side-view mirror will automatically alert you to vehicles in your blind spot. Like LaneWatch, the BSIS works whenever you signal to turn.

Cross Traffic

Cross Traffic Monitor: Whenever you move in reverse, you’ll enjoy the added protection of Honda’s Cross Traffic Monitor. Audiovisual alerts on your rearview camera system will protect you from entering onto someone else’s path.

High Beam Headlights

Auto High-Beam Headlights: At speeds over 25 mph, these headlights will automatically switch between your high and low beams in response to oncoming traffic.

Where to Find Honda Sensing

In recent years, the engineers and designers at Honda have made an effort to offer the Honda Sensing safety suite on more and more of their popular vehicles. What’s more, Honda Sensing is now available on vehicles in many different segments, and that means you can enjoy Honda Sensing without compromising on the other features that you desire.

This system is either available or standard on every Honda Accord and Honda Civic that is currently being produced. When equipped with Honda Sensing, the 2017 Honda Accord Sedan and the 2017 Honda Accord Hybrid each received the 2017 IIHS Top Safety Pick+ designation! At the same time, the IIHS named the 2017 Honda Accord Coupe, the 2017 Honda Civic Coupe, and the 2017 Honda Civic Sedan as Top Safety Picks this year. The all-new 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback has not yet received any IIHS awards, but it too is available with the desirable Honda Sensing package!

Other vehicles available with Honda Sensing include the 2017 Honda CR-V, the 2017 Honda Pilot, and the 2017 Honda Ridgeline—a compact SUV, a full-size SUV, and a pickup truck, respectively!
